A continuation of the infinite cycle, twilight music for rainy drives and break-ups. Songs interweave darker introspections and personal narratives with surprisingly (and often quite subtle) optimistic elements, conveying emotional states that ride the blurry lines of focus that go hand in hand with lost love and broken hearts, maudlin reflection and frustrated denials. The album is like a novel in that respect, from the opening lines of "I know things are hard and they wake up in the night..." to the closing instrumental titled after the CD itself, "degree of focus", a track that offers both a closure of sorts and an opportunity to loop back to the first track, repeating the sequence all over again. |
