Velvet is a four-piece from College Park, Maryland. This four-year-old band has gained local fame for their infectious and energetic live performances. Their second release, "Tragic," evokes many of the same emotions as their live shows.
Their relentless touring in the Baltimore, DC and Virginia area has helped build a dedicated following of over 1900 signing their mailing list over the years. Headlining at prestigious clubs including The Black Cat, Jaxx, Metro Café, The Vault, and Recher Theatre, among countless other clubs and playing with such up and coming bands including Pat McGee Band, Sev, The Martians, Supine, Dog Fashion Disco, Good Charlotte, The Anniversary, and Baltic Avenue, Velvet is doing more than their part to restore the once mighty DC scene.
No stranger to the press, Velvet has given interviews and been reviewed in a myriad of regional 'zines, always well received. These publications include University of Maryland's own independent daily newspaper, The Diamondback (circulation: 50,000), CMJ Weekly, and Pitch Magazine among countless others. Velvet is featured on the CMJ Compilation “Certain Damage Vol. 106” featuring artists including Cowboy Junkies and Guided by Voices. Velvet has been featured on many compilations from all over the world including Seattle Washington, Russia, and Germany.
Having worked in conjunction with Dischord Records (Fugazi), their eponymous debut album sold out in record time for a newcomer act. The self-titled release also laid the groundwork for the masterfully layered sounds of their second album.
Recorded at Phase Studios in College Park and produced by Bruce Falkinburg (Cross My Heart, Gift to the Greedy, Bald Rapunzel), the eight song CD is now available through Signal to Noise Records.
