Uncle Tom is a guitar oriented hard-edged power pop rock band that writes and plays melodic catchy sing-along type songs, but with highly intelligent lyrics, tons of attitude, and a tongue-in-cheek sense of humor. Uncle Tom was formed in Los Angeles in 1997 after the demise of an earlier band signed to Mojo Records called The Bogus Toms, and is lead by New York born vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter Robert "Beast" Best, who also has a Master's Degree in clinical psychology. Along with Louie Shilling on drums, and Fling on bass and vocals, they released their debut CD in late 1999 on indie Fuse Records.
At this time, the band is using the Net to market and gain exposure by utilizing on-line record merchants such as Amazon.com and others as well as enjoying an ever growing audience at MP3.com (over 25,000 downloads), Amp3, and other digital music outlets. The Uncle Tom official Web Site has won a number of best-of awards due to the use of Shockwave Flash in an original and entertaining way. In addition to distributing the CD through regional outlets and on the internet, the band has been getting airplay all over the world on web-based radio stations that use new music as their format. As of very recently, the major labels have been contacting the band…looks like the beginning of the next chapter. Stay tuned?!
