ModernRock.com welcomes Planetary Records, a 2 year new indie label comprised of Virginia-based bands. Planetary is a division of Plan 9 Music, an independent retailer with five stores in Central Virginia. After attending a retail panel at SXSW, Plan 9 owner Jim Bland realized the necessity of providing a distribution outlet for local artists, many of whom were already consigning their products through Plan 9. Refining his idea to include production and promotion, Planetary Records was born in May 1997.
