Artist Summery: Crown 10 is an eclectic mix of styles and influences geared toward the college alternative music scene. Hard Rock, funk, soul, jazz, ska and R&B all play a significant role in the bands overall style. The bands motto is: Focus on what makes a solid song enhanced by the knowledge of musical marketability and musicianship. Their musical stylings could be compared to a combination of John Mayer, Parliament/Funkadelic and Kings X. Tastefully funky with an aggressive edge featuring solid songwriting, stunning musicianship and soulful lyrics with undeniable hook laden grooves.
Band Bio: While growing up in New Jersey, guitarist/lead vocalist James Brady took private lessons from Dave Dipietro (guitarist for TT Quick and Nuclear Assault). He continued on to study music and marketing at Lansing Community College in Michigan. Deciding to make the move to the West Coast to be closer to the entertainment industry in Los Angeles, James started auditioning for established acts around the Southern California area. Discouraged with trying to find a band to join that had the same vision and musical influences as himself, James decided to start his own project and hooked up with bass player, Carl Owens and started writing and rehearsing together.
In need of a drummer, James contacted former 24-7 SPYZ (Atlantic/Eastwest Records) and Shockhead (Indivision Records) drummer, Joel Maitoza to see if he would be interested in joining forces with the band. Joel asked the band if they would be interested in having him produce their debut album, which they were writing songs for. Since 24-7 SPYZ was a big influence in their style of songwriting and Joel had sixteen major and independent albums under his belt, they accepted him as the producer for their debut album as well as their official drummer. The band immediately went into pre-production to fine tune the arrangements and entered DML Studios to record their debut CD. After the recording of the full-length album, Carl Owens decided to depart from the band due to a personal matter and was immediately replaced by megachops bassist and vocalist Roz Taylor. CROWN 10 was officially formed in the summer of 2002.
The band quickly emerged onto the San Diego, California music scene and started creating a huge local buzz. The band self promoted their infectious, addictive grooves by burning hundreds of three-song CD samplers from tracks taken from their completed album and gave them away for free to everyone who attended their shows. These samplers also received attention from local radio stations, which are currently spinning the CROWN 10 songs as well as conducting live on-air interviews with the band.
Combining rock, funk, jazz, blues, and any other form of music that suits their mood, Crown 10 have created their own multi-genre niche that fits into any atmosphere.
The bands self-titled debut album will be released in the US on October 7th, 2003 on the newly formed So Cal Records label distributed by IDN Distribution. The album will also be released in Canada, Europe and Japan in November. The band is currently making plans for a US tour following the albums release.
