Blues Old Stand
Style(s): Alt Country, Rock, Lo-Fi Location: Montgomery, AL Manager: Eric Hoxit Booking: (334) 561-0576 Influence(s): Everything from James Brown to Jerry Reed.
When Blues Old Stand (named for a small town in their native Alabama) formed in Montgomery in the early 90’s, all the old ideas about “What Southern Rock Is, and Is Not,” got turned upside-down! Their sometimes ruckus, sometimes intimate, but always soulful and funky blend of roots rock and screamin’ blues harp has made them one of the southern college circuit’s favorite live acts. They smoke stages with raw power and explosive energy, mesmerize audiences with their improvisational talent, and keep the whole room moving with them by doing it all deep inside the groove. For Blues Old Stand, the song, and the groove still come first!
Blues Old Stand has expanded their sound over the years, keeping their music fresh, and avoiding the tired clichés of the “Blues Rock” and “Jam-Band” genres, creating 21st Century Blues, using everything from slide guitar and harmonicas, to samples and “found sounds”- and still keeping it funky and staying true to their Southern Blues heritage.
Their latest CD, a five-song EP featuring the single “Mule” (released October 2001), garnered great regional and internet reviews, and earned the boys a spot at CMJ’s 2001 MusicMarathon in NYC. “Mule” been ranked on Garageband.com’s Funk/Soul chart as high as #24, and is featured on Garageband Records’ October 2002 “Evolved: Funk/Soul” compilation CD. Their first self-titled CD, released in1995 on their own Supahi Label, sold 2000 copies.
Blues Old Stand has toured with, or opened for such national acts as:
