Along the way somehow we find ourselves seeking out truth in life. Truth in some form or another . Meaning and emotion and the rellavance to something that stands out and is important to the human condition and to us all. We see it in others, in music, we recognize it . As if we are looking into ourselves. Theres no faking it. The meaning in which the members of the band Audiopilot is centered and balances. When Audiopilot burst onto the indie scene in January of 2001 in Santa Barbara, California, they were quickly compared to the similarities of Radiohead, and the Smashing Pumpkins. Soon enough the band were making a name for themselves and establishing their own identity and sound. Audiopilot was quickly thrown into supporting such impacting acts like Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Breeders, AM Radio, Summercamp, and Lapdog. Still the band was not just local hype. Jason Napier (vocals/guitar), Dony West (guitar), Dave Masters (bass), and Brad Pankop (drums) were a very close, very tight knit group of musicians who were ready to create and play the music that had been stirring inside them for years. Founded in Columbus, Ohio, in 1995, Audiopilot began when Jason Napier and Dony West met while attending Columbus College of Art and Design. The band was originally named Sink to See, and they were busy writing and playing guitar driven emotionally melodic-indie rock tunes at parties, bars, and clubs in and around the state. In December of 2000, Jason and Dony decided to further themselves and the music. They left it all behind and drove to Los Angeles to join up with Dony's cousin Brad and friend Dave, to continue they're musical endeavors on a more serious and focused level. After a year of writing, regrouping and giging, the band were making things happen. Early in 2001, Audiopilot went in to record they're first studio demo with engineer/producer Nick Seville (Depech Mode, Yes, Serah...) Amazingly, the band was not only able to keep their very original sound, but were able to make that unpolished sound become an incredible tightly wrapped diamond. During the recording sessions that Audiopilot had recorded their demo, the band decided to continue work with Nick on a group of new songs . Those songs are due out in Summer 2003. The band is currently at work writing and recording, and playing throughout Los Angeles and Southern California. | |
